Making stuff is good for my brain. Sometimes I write words, or record a podcast. Sometimes I shoot things with some sort of camera or a drone. And I was thinking, maybe you could tell me what you need me to make, I’ll do it, and then you can give me some money for crisps and sweets.

HERE ARE SOME QUESTIONS THAT I’VE IMAGINED PEOPLE ASKING ME:

“What’s your stance on generative AI? It’s pretty cool, right? I used it to make my dead nan look like she’s in Family Guy.”

No!!! It absolutely sucks at pretty much everything, especially creative stuff, and you won’t find it used in my work apart from some noise reduction, if that counts. Full disclosure, Squarespace used AI to generate the alt text for the images on this website even though I didn’t realise I’d asked it to, but I still had to edit a bunch of them because it couldn’t accurately recognise colours or different types of animals.

“What equipment do you use?”

Currently, a Lumix GH5 with a Lumix GX1 as backup, two DJI Mini microphones, and a DJI Mini 5 Pro drone. I’m a big believer in not obsessing over gear; look around and you can always find someone doing better work with the same kit, so I prefer to keep learning rather than throw money at the problem. Some of the stuff in my portfolio was actually shot with my phone, but I’m not telling you which bits.

I’m currently studying for my A2 CofC, which isn’t necessary for the Mini 5 because it’s only little, but hopefully it shows that I do actually take these things somewhat seriously. I will, of course, be fully insured on the day for any commercial drone operations.
